Like some kind of Western Canada Qualifier, a tournament was thrown down this past Saturday with 17 players turning up to do battle in the most “extreme” way card players know how! Hosted by Cameron Kennedy, Prince of Red Deer, at Thunderground Games in St. Albert, the qualifier was, as contestant Dave Berkes was heard to remark, a “no-holds barred qualifier” and everyone was like Bring It On, Bring It To Win It. It was an event so epic, two crappy posts will be used to write about it. The tournament report will follow sometime, maybe.
Props:
-Prince of Winnipeg, John Pattie flew in on a whim and would make final cut, fueled by an unrefuted but unproven hatred of our province. While he didn’t win the final, he did drink Shawn’s unattended Coke, but that may have been hearsay.
-Roy Kim hosting at Thunderground. He throws a mean barbecue with lots of hot dogs and burgers, and a big screen TV for Matrix trilogy movies exclusively, and Virtua Fighter.
-Sportsmandship and friendliness, which was for the most part, good.
-Heather Kreiter and Lawrence Snelly for providing prints and signed cards as prizes.
-Cameron Kennedy for running the show.
Slops:
-Lack of ketchup for barbecue. It ran out, leaving many burgers and hot dogs with a less than optimal succulence.
-Me picking one of the three bad positions at the final table, instead of the only good one.
-John Pattie for not really drinking Shawn’s Coke.
